The Breakers have been struggling with scoring goals and winning games! Their last defeat against Werder Bremen was absolutely humiliating 4-0 and showed the team completely break down in focus. The Breakers have been out scored 7-1 in the last 3 matches with 1 draw and 2 losses.
Can the Breakers regain composure against CFR CLUJ?
CFR Cluj is a Romanian professional football club from the city of Cluj-Napoca, Cluj county. The club was founded in 1907 as Kolozsvári Vasutas Sport Club and renamed after the Romanian state railway carrier, Căile Ferate Române in 1918. CFR Cluj returned to the top flight in 2004 and the following season took in their first UEFA competition, the Intertoto Cup, finishing as runners-up.
In 2007-08, CFR Cluj were champions of Liga I for the first time in their history, taking the title away from Bucharest for the first time in 17 years, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stages in the process, six years after having been in the third tier of Romanian league football.[1] CFR Cluj started the UEFA Champions League 2008-2009 with an unexpected win against A.S. Roma, followed by a draw against the previous season's Champions League finalists, Chelsea.
CFR is the Romanian football team with the most international players in its squad, leading the way to a more multicultural football atmosphere in Liga I.
The match began with the Breakers attempting a quick shot on goal. Although it was knocked out by the keeper, it at least showed that the Breakers could create a solid build up and lead to a shot on goal.
The Breakers offense didn't stop with this solid shot on goal, however most of their shots were not on goal!
CFR CLUJ however, began to play solid defense and the roles were reversed with CFR CLUJ controlling the ball and having a number of shots on goal. The score remained 0-0 at the half with neither team getting one past either keeper.
The Breakers began a solid attack around the 54 minute mark as Nam (7) lobbed a beautiful pass to Kirby (13) who was able to just get the shot past the goalie at the 57'.
Initially it looked as if the keeper kept the shot out of the net, but other angles showed that clearly the ball went into the net and was knocked back out by the keeper.
While CFR CLUJ came back with the will to get an equalizing goal, the Breakers keeper Desi (5) remained strong and would not let one get past him! The match was definitely won by the Breakers defense who were able to not let 7 out of 9 shots on goal get past the keeper!
Amazing play by Desi and the rest of the Breakers defense allowed the Breakers to win 1-0.
