League Game 12: Alkmaar Zaanstreek (AZ) vs Santa Cruz Breakers

The Breakers were hoping to get a win against Alkmaar Zaanstreek (AZ). AZ is an acronym for Alkmaar Zaanstreek, is a football club founded from Alkmaar, the Netherlands.

The match began with AZ taking a strong shot on goal scoring at the 8'. Again, the Breakers give up an early goal under the first 10 minutes of a match.

This routine pattern is becoming a bigger problem since it makes the Breakers play more conservatively with the early deficit.

The Breakers took a couple of shots on goal of their own, but the halftime score remained 1-0 with AZ ahead at the half.

The second half began with both teams having a number of shots on goal.

At the 68' Manning (16) broke free from the crowd and took a strong shot that found it's way to the back of the net!

Both teams continued to to fight hard to find a way to score the "go ahead goal" but neither team were able to get past solid defensive play!

The match ended with a draw. The Breakers must be credited with their solid defensive play against AZ. If it weren't for the quick opening goal by AZ, their defense played brilliantly.

Press Conference with Breakers to discuss 2-3-6 record

Chow (63) had two solid shots on goal, that couldn't find the back of the net in the last match against LOSC!

The press conference interviewing E. Chow (63) the current Captain of the Santa Cruz Breakers lasted just under 15 minutes.

PRESS:
Why are the Breakers struggling?

E. CHOW: The Breakers are a young team that have faced a number of solid club teams in D2 of League C. The more we play, the better we will become!

PRESS: In your 4-0 loss against Werder Bremen, it appeared that your team hit the low point of this season, what did you tell your team after the match?

E. CHOW:
As Captain, it's my responsibility to work with my team and help them to stay composed and focused. The 4-0 loss against Werder Bremen was a devastating loss for us and our team began to unravel, especially after the second goal being an "own goal". I told my teammates that "each match is new opportunity for us to win and that we will only win as a team when we play as a team."

PRESS: What will be the most important thing the Breakers can do for the second half of the season?

E. CHOW: We need to stay composed and remain disciplined throughout the entire 90+ minutes of each match. The team needs to begin each match strong and not flat as we've done so in the past, which tends to have led to an early goal by the opposing team.

PRESS: Thanks for your time and good luck with the rest of the season!

E. CHOW: Thanks, I'd like to thank our sponsor DAKINE and all the fans for their continued good wishes! We are looking forward to the second half of the season!

The Breakers manager stated they he felt that the team was prepared to finish strong in the second half of the season! No additional comments about future prospects in the upcoming negotiation period.

League Game 11: LOSC Lille Metropole vs Santa Cruz Breakers

The Breakers are coming off a solid defensive 1-0 victory against CFR CLUJ. This win came at the right time as the Breakers were struggling with scoring and found themselves with no offense and a mediocre defense.

LOSC Lille Metropole played host to the Breakers. Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC0 is a French football club. Based in the northern city of Lille founded in 1944 from the merger of the Olympique Lillois (founded in 1902) and the SC Fives (founded in 1901).

LOSC got the match off to a quick start with the first goal at the 11'. This pattern is of a first early goal by the opposing team is an unfortunate one that continues to haunt the breakers.

The Breakers shook off the early goal with a number of solid offensive attacks of their own. Manning (16) barely missed a free kick!

E. Chow (63) took a great shot on goal which was just out of reach by the goalie, but went wide right of the goal. The Breakers continued to trail 1-0.

E. Chow (63) took another amazing shot on goal to begin the second half, but it was stopped again by the goalkeeper.

Shot after shot kept getting deflected! As the match progressed, the Breakers became more discouraged since all their build ups ended without a goal!

The Breakers defense remained solid and only allowed 5 shots on goal. Desi (5) stopped a brilliant shot on goal that would have put the match out of reach!

The final minutes of the match ended with the Breakers remaining scoreless and LOSC winning 1-0.

The Breakers played a great match with 9 shots on goal and 4 on target. Although the Breakers are disappointed with the loss, the team played fairly well if not for the early goal at the 11'.

Breakers get a win!

The Breakers finally scored a goal and got a 1-0 win against CFR CLUJ. Although they are still at the bottom of the division with a 2-3-5 record, this win against a strong CFR CLUJ was important to the team and the fans!

No one expected the Breakers to command their first Master League, but they still wanted their team to be competitive. Over the past few games, the fans saw their team completely lose their composure and will to play.

The defense has seen players inadvertently knock their goalie out of plays and even scored a couple of own goals which led to absolute frustration and finger pointing among players and the mood was dismal and not looking good!

The Manager has apparently been able to work with his young team to understand the importance to stay composed and play as a team.

Football is definitely a team and individual sport with both the individual player creating opportunities for himself as well as the team. This win could not have come at a better time against an impressive club team.

We hope this win will allow this team to become more of a team and work even better

League Game 10: CFR CLUJ vs Santa Cruz Breakers

The Breakers have been struggling with scoring goals and winning games! Their last defeat against Werder Bremen was absolutely humiliating 4-0 and showed the team completely break down in focus. The Breakers have been out scored 7-1 in the last 3 matches with 1 draw and 2 losses.

Can the Breakers regain composure against CFR CLUJ?

CFR Cluj is a Romanian professional football club from the city of Cluj-Napoca, Cluj county. The club was founded in 1907 as Kolozsvári Vasutas Sport Club and renamed after the Romanian state railway carrier, Căile Ferate Române in 1918. CFR Cluj returned to the top flight in 2004 and the following season took in their first UEFA competition, the Intertoto Cup, finishing as runners-up.

In 2007-08, CFR Cluj were champions of Liga I for the first time in their history, taking the title away from Bucharest for the first time in 17 years, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League group stages in the process, six years after having been in the third tier of Romanian league football.[1] CFR Cluj started the UEFA Champions League 2008-2009 with an unexpected win against A.S. Roma, followed by a draw against the previous season's Champions League finalists, Chelsea.

CFR is the Romanian football team with the most international players in its squad, leading the way to a more multicultural football atmosphere in Liga I.

The match began with the Breakers attempting a quick shot on goal. Although it was knocked out by the keeper, it at least showed that the Breakers could create a solid build up and lead to a shot on goal.

The Breakers offense didn't stop with this solid shot on goal, however most of their shots were not on goal!

CFR CLUJ however, began to play solid defense and the roles were reversed with CFR CLUJ controlling the ball and having a number of shots on goal. The score remained 0-0 at the half with neither team getting one past either keeper.

The Breakers began a solid attack around the 54 minute mark as Nam (7) lobbed a beautiful pass to Kirby (13) who was able to just get the shot past the goalie at the 57'.

Initially it looked as if the keeper kept the shot out of the net, but other angles showed that clearly the ball went into the net and was knocked back out by the keeper.

While CFR CLUJ came back with the will to get an equalizing goal, the Breakers keeper Desi (5) remained strong and would not let one get past him! The match was definitely won by the Breakers defense who were able to not let 7 out of 9 shots on goal get past the keeper!

Amazing play by Desi and the rest of the Breakers defense allowed the Breakers to win 1-0.

League Game 9: Werder Bremen vs Santa Cruz Breakers

The Breakers came prepared to take on Werder Bremen after a tough 2-0 defeat against their new rivals Stade Rennais FC.

Werder Bremen is a German sports club best known for its football team playing in Bremen, in the northwest German federal state of the same name. The club was founded on 4 February 1899 as Fußballverein Werder by a group of sixteen vocational high school students who had won a prize of sports equipment to set them on their way. They took their name from the seldom used regional German word for “river peninsula”, describing the riverside field they first played football on.

The match began with the Breakers giving up an early goal at the 9'. Unfortunately, this has become a fairly routine pattern for the Breakers who typically struggle in the first 20 minutes of any match.

Although the Breakers battled back, they were unable to get a goal in the first half of the match. Their offense attempted to have a build up, but most led to not even a shot on goal.

Although the Breakers continued to play hard and even had the opportunity with a few shots on goal, none reached the back of the net!

The Breakers ran into bad luck with an "own goal" giving Werder Bremen a 2-0 lead at the 69'. This is not the first time the defense has broken down and scored an "own goal".

This began a flurry of additional goals by Werder Bremen at the 77' and 81'.

At this point, it was clear that the Breakers had not chance in the match. The Breakers became frustrated after their own goal and was unable to regroup giving up the third and fourth goal appeared out of pure frustration and lack of discipline.

The Breakers need to move on from this terrible defeat and become more focused!

Primary sponsor "DAKINE" maintains strong support for Breakers!

"Da kine" is a word in Hawaiian Pidgin, derived from "the kind", that usually functions grammatically as a placeholder name (compare to English "whatsit" and "whatchamacallit"), but can also take the role of a verb, adjective, or adverb.

Unlike other placeholder names in English, however, which usually refer specifically to a device (e.g. "gizmo" or "widget"), person (e.g. "so-and-so"), or place (e.g. "Anytown, USA"), "da kine" is general in usage and could refer to anything from a person to an abstract concept. It can be used to refer to something nonspecific, or given enough context (especially when used in conversation between native speakers of the dialect, see Pragmatics) to something very specific. As such, it appears to be unique among English dialects, at least in its centrality to everyday speech.

DA KINE (da KINE) Da kine is the keystone of pidgin. You can use it anywhere, anytime, anyhow. Very convenient. What would we do without DA KINE? "Ey, I no can da kine if you no like da kine, too!"

DAKINE was founded in 1979 and is pleased to be the primary sponsor of the for the Santa Cruz Breakers.

Although DAKINE typically caters to the surf, skate, snowboard, ski, windsurf, kite, and bike scene, Dakine believes that the Santa Cruz Breakers and fans epitomize Dakine's spirit of the brand.

Soon, DAKINE will be announcing special events at upcoming home Breaker games! DAKINE wishes the Breakers luck in the second half of the season!
